This is my 1988
Courtenay Turbo, finished in Starmist Black.
It had only 1 previous owner for 18 years and only has covered
17k from new, it still has Courtenay number plates, dealer
stickers and new original key rings!! I have the original sales
invoice, every m.o.t, tax disc and all the
correspondence/letters from Chris Courtenay himself.
How many Courtenay Turbos were built is open to speculation! I
have heard 6, 9, and 16 so its anyone's guess, but it is
definitely a rare car by any definition.
Mine was converted from brand new and is a full spec conversion
with water injection.
It might very well be the last "new" Courtenay Manta built as it
is on an F plate and the letters from Chris Courtenay state how
difficult it was to source before build, it was the only
Exclusive he could find through the dealer network. |

The 0-60mph time is
quoted in the original road test to be 6.6 seconds with a b.h.p.
figure of around the 230 mark but unfortunately no torque
specifications are quoted anywhere.
The car runs 15
p.s.i. of boost when using water and the road test quotes Chris
Courtenay,
"The standard Manta time from 60 to 80mph in 4th gear is 10
seconds the Courtenay does it in just over 4. The standard manta
takes 22.2 seconds to accelerate from 90-110mph and the
Courtenay does it in just 8.4!"
The car suffers from quite a bit of turbo lag and is very
different to drive than modern turbo cars, its absolutely flat
under about 3000 rpm then all hell lets loose....if you get the
revs right its rewarding to say the least.
When on boost it is pretty thirsty and half a tank of fuel will
easily disappear in a short space of time and few miles.
