Manta B Modified

Owner: Chris Tee
I bought this car back in
'97, just as a run about whilst my other Manta was off the road having a
V8 put in. but I can't leave anything alone and soon I had two Manta
projects on the go (I bought an XR2 a couple of years ago as both Mantas
were off the road!)
|
|
I have had a lot of
welding done to the floor pan and chassis - all the normal
places had rusted through so it has had new inner wings, most of
the floor and some of the chassis rails replaced with new steel.
I wanted something
different/up to date so the body kit
has been sourced from several cars - The front bumper is a mix
of Manta and Hyundai Accent with a few other bits thrown in. |
 |
|
Arches are from an Escort
RS Turbo - narrowed and stretched.
Sideskirts are BMW M3,
rear bumper is a Mantzel elegance item, with XR2 foglights.
On the boot lid is a glass
fibre exclusive style spoiler with an E-tech double wing alloy
spoiler mounted on top. Other bits include a cold air duct in
the wing, Fiesta RS bonnet vents and a single wiper.
Inside I have removed the
rear seats and replaced with carpet, a rear cage and aluminium
wheel tubs. I re-trimmed the front seats in grey and black vinyl
and added four point harnesses. I made a new centre console for
the stereo, EQ and various switches - including a start button.
There is also a roof console with more switches and a better
interior light, extra gauges in the dash, a snap-off steering
wheel and aluminium window winders and tax disc holder.
The suspension consists of
Spax adjustable shox and PMC ultra-low springs.
The brakes have been
upgraded with Tarrox 40 groove discs, twin pot callipers,
braided hoses and a senator master cylinder.

The engine is a Carlton
2.2 bottom end, which has been lightened and balanced, a re-bore
and new pistons/bearings. The head is a Manta GTE 2l stage 3
(ported/polished, big valves), 234 cam and solid lifters. There
is also a K&N air filter, Ashley tubular exhaust manifold and
2.5 inch exhaust, FSE adjustable fuel regulator (with gauge) and
an up-rated clutch.
The battery had to be
moved to the boot so there would be room for the coil and brake
bias valve to be mounted near the bulkhead to keep the engine
bay as tidy/clutter free as possible - there is a sheet of
aluminium across the back of the engine bay which hides the
alarm, wiper mechanism, Polo heater unit, coil and brake valve. |
 |
 |
There is also the ICE
which consists of 3 amps, 3 subs, 6 full range speakers, 2
tweeters, single disc head unit, 7 band EQ and sub
crossover/bass booster.
Just as a finishing touch
there are neons and strobes both underneath and inside the car
which can be switched remotely via the alarm key-fob. |
It's still not finished -
needs painting, carpeting inside (once I have found out where the water
is coming in) and a bit of tidying up here and there but I have taken it
to two shows this year and it has drawn a crowd on both occasions - it
has also been featured in Total Vauxhalls write-up of their Santa Pod
show, which was nice.
