The Fuel System by William R Blankley

more by William Blankley

The fuel system is prone to water trouble. I think that it is condensation in the tank. The symptoms are all sorts of obstinate misfires, stalling, what have you. When the car is cornered hard the water in the bottom of the float chamber slops over into the main jet. Goodnight Vienna, for a moment or two. A cup full of industrial Methylated Spirits (denatured alcohol?) thrown into the tank will pick up the moisture in the system as it passes through. Do not overdo this, you might damage something, do not drink the meths in despair. Fellow fossils will remember Cleveland Discol, with Alcohol, very good for this sort of problem. The family MG used to thrive on it.

Ethyl Alcohol is a very effective clean liquid fuel. If it where universally applied one big traffic jam could be one huge hangover. Perhaps this is the Brazilian experience? They brew from sugar cane, how poetic to run the motor on White Rum!
