Garage Doors by William R Blankley

The garage door fell
on me. It is a perfectly standard up and over device that
used to run perfectly smoothly, it had been graced with a
new metal door some years ago and is the sort of thing
that just never gets thought of. There is a single bolt
set into the pre cast concrete to hold each hinge and the
right hand had been gnawed by the Rust Demon as if it had
been a particularly choice corn cob. Of course, this has
to happen at a time of maximum panic, so, not to
disappoint the occasion, out came the ox-acetylene cutter
and the remains of the bolt that were stuck in the
concrete had a grand send off with fountains of sparks.
Now in a perfect world there should be no real trouble
fitting it all together again. Beg to report that I now
have one of the most obstinate up and over doors on the
planet and if this was the States it might be an idea to
sue for emotional distress. But for the grace of God I
might now be nursing a broken back. It is a heavy door.
So to any one who
reads this who has an up and over door. Please check the
hinge bolts.
