B780 RWD - Manta B GT/E

More club cars

Owner: George Bussey - aka Bogwart

1985 Manta GT/E Coupe B780 RWD in almost original condition with just a few minor rust patches when last checked (like thumbnail size on boot rim).

Underneath is sound as is the sunroof above. Still keeping my fingers crossed & the welder handy!

I bought 780 about three years ago and am it's third owner from new. It has covered around 56,000 miles to date and was originally supplied by Steve Thompson Cars (the original modified Manta pre-Exclusive supplier) in Walsall, the paperwork with the vehicle supports this.

The car was virtually dry stored for approx. 15 years by the previous owner but serviced throughout.

I had a new Opel Coupe back in 1982 and always wanted the GT/E but family & kids didn't allow for one.

The car is only used when the weather allows - dry and damp free. Usually only used during the summer months and the odd winter run to ensure all is still well & working - plus I need the occasional Manta fix !

The photo's were taken in June 2005 for the Insurance valuation - at present agreed at £3000 which is written into the policy. Initially had to fit a Thatcham cat 2 immobiliser and get an independent engineers report on the vehicle. (Used the AA).

The mechanics are all standard as I bought the car because I love the Manta - not a hybrid version of it - though accept that others have made very worthwhile mods & changes. It's just my view of a classic car.

Having said that I have one of Clive's brilliant Rad panels and am in the process of fitting one of his gauge mounts in place of the cassette drawers. This because the voltage reg has blown (again) and so am fitting 'proper' Water temp & Voltmeter gauges.

I also have a 'Powerflow' stainless steel exhaust system which besides saving on future replacements makes rather a nice sound.

Recently sold a 1990 Senator 3.0 24v - I must admit - IF I were to do any conversion I would seriously consider the straight six 3.0E 24v as this gives a top whack of 150mph and a 0-60 of around 8 secs. in auto form in a big old Senator - what would a manual Manta go like ??

Would you like to see another club car?
