Uprating Manta Lighting by William R Blankley

more by William Blankley

Opening up the hood the other day I looked over the wiring. Having been offered some 130 Watt H1 bulbs it seemed a good idea. The lamps are still in the wraps. My comment at the time was on the lines of "and you can call me Doris if that harness set up will take that pair of death rays". Why? The headlight switch operates directly for a start; there is no spare current carrying capacity in the system at all. Everything in the car has just enough capacity and no more, plus it is probably a bit brittle with age.

Get out of that sucker! Easy if you know how, take four headlight relays, one for each lamp, mount up next to the light units, use the existing feed to pull the relay in, run some wire as used for sixty amp alternators to the supply side of the relays from the battery live via a sixty amp fuse, now finish the job with a ground return in the same size wire (color it yellow).

To run this a sixty amp alternator will be required, that’s why the bulbs are still in their cartons! Modifications seem to upset the mechano-ecology.
