Manta A - Manta B 75-81 - Manta B 81-88 - Manta CC - Cavalier Coupe - Cavalier Hatch - Centaur Convertible

Opel Manta B series (1981-88) 1.8S GT by Paul Brennecker

Overview

The GT Hatch replaced the GTJ in 1982, after the trim levels were improved. The 1.8 litre Family II Over head Camshaft engine was again used. The 1.8 OHC engine was also being used in the Astra GTE and the Cavalier SRi, albeit in fuel injected form. With the Varijet carburetter, the Manta did not offer the performance of the Astra but proved to be extremely reliable and had the longest service interval of any Manta yet produced. Being a smaller and more easliy serviceable car had its advantages, most notably in running costs, The 1.8 GT was considerably cheaper to insure than its bigger brother, making it a perfect entry level model.
The GT stayed in production until 1987, being replaced by the GT Exclusive.
