D252 MEE – 1986 Opel Manta 2.0i GTE
More club cars?
Owner:
Richard Sharpe
|
This car was first
registered on the 1st of August 1986 by a Mr J D Clark
costing some £8500 plus, bought from a part exchange of an identical car
only on an earlier 1983 A-plate. Until 2001 this car would remain with
the same owner, cared for and lavished with new parts at the slightest
sign of fault.
In 2001 Mr Clark sold
the car back into the family, to his son in law who kept it for two
years before selling to my friend Rob. When Rob first told me he had
bought a new car I said… yeah what is it? He said it’s a few years old
just short of my age, so I'm thinking… sounds like a nail, how wrong I
was. Rob was going into the RAF shortly into the military police and I
managed to pry it from his clutches the night before he left.

The service history tells a
story, the perfect life. Nothing but book service stamps, receipts for
tyres, brakes, suspension and exhausts, an MOT for every year of its
life, servicing it's all there. The history remains constant and
thorough with what looks like no skeletons in the cupboard. |
| The car itself is as you can see
unmarked inside and out, gleaming in original Carmine Red with no
modifications or alterations. There was a few jobs needed doing and with
my skills in spray painting I was able to finish them to an original
standard. The quad light surrounds had a nice bone-dry riverbed effect
going on where the paint had just dried and cracked in crazy patterns.
Soaking them in cellulose thinner I was ready to re-spray them, cut them
back with duraglit and polish them. A set of new number plates also
added to replace the tatty metal backed original ones. |

Now at a not shy 109,000
miles it stands in a garage as a classic car and 80’s sports car icon.
